dotSUB.com and Project Readon

I came across dotSUB.com and Project Readon from reading this blog so here are my thoughts as a viewer
Project readon is good and the subtitles are readable and the captions shows on each side of the screen so you know which person is speaking
The down side is the subtitles are held at different server so when viewing YouTube and the video is buffering the subtitles tend to be ahead of the film itself.
DotSUB is brilliant the subtitles are embedded to the film only down side is that it does take up a lot of space but then again if it was any smaller its would be harder to read.

dotSUB is my preference but if Project Readon becomes more popular then I cant complain as beggers cant be choosers!

Fintan - good points, from the point of receiving subtitles. Keep it up, need more people’s perspective. Both sites have pros / cons.

I’ve just focused blogging on how to make these sites work up to now, and not looked at these points.

I prefer dotSUB.com because I feel like I’m watching closed captioning on TV. I don’t think it takes up that much of space. However, if it is an issue for you and others, I’ll be happy to contact dotSUB and see if they can increase the size of the video but keep the size of the subtitles. Let me know. I’ve been in touch with dotSUB about subtitling videos.

Project ReadOn… I did not like that at all. I had to make sure that the window is in the front of hte video and have it placed where I like it. Usually they put it on top of the video clip, whereas I prefer it to be the bottom like closed captioning.

Good post! Fintan and Alison. Thank you!

With dotSUB.com its not a problem with the subtitles being small more like when the person post it on a blog you can have a choice of size when publishing it.
