Speech Therapist

Saw in a blog somewhere about speech therapist (I have lost the link) reminded me when I was about 11 during school time I had to go down the road to a clinic to have speech therapy.
Although my mum had letters etc but never seen speech therapists only the doctors, she was puzzled on why I developed a lisp. ( I did over do it as I hated going there)
Mum visited the clinic and found that my speech therapist has a lisp not surprisingly she complained and stopped me from going there.

Hahahahha! Love your story! In my book, speech therapists are in the same league as audiologists. I ran from both of them.

Lisps can vary in severity, but basically the letter “s” is mispronounced as another sound.

S is a troublesome sound. Myself, I leave it off half the time, because I don’t hear it. It’s the quietest sound of the lot.

I had speech therapy every day for a year when I was nine. I still go occasionally for top-ups as I forget how to pronounce consonants and to use them esp at the ends of words, as I can’t hear them. Some people are amazed that I have an Irish accent but my speech therapist in childhood was Irish. I think it’s so important to keep it up - most people don’t even realise I’m deaf - but it’s hell trying to find a speech therapist as an adult, they all tend to cater for deaf children or adults with brain injuries/strokes - deaf adults seem to be left to fall through the gaps.
